The Cross Channel Film Lab is looking for experienced and talented videographer/editors or production teams to produce a number of films in response to the five briefs outlined below.

If you would like to be considered for all or some of this work, please submit a brief proposal to uk@crosschannelfilmlab.com by 17 October 2014.

Your submission should include a breakdown of the anticipated costs, including VAT.  This will include allowance for pre-production meetings, all crew required for production, a post-production period that includes consultatation with CCFL, and delivery of the final material in appropriate formats.  Please also include links to existing quality work in a similar vein.

The videographer/editor or production team will provide all equipment and materials, including final masters. We are interested in proposals for simple graphic content where appropriate.

The timeframe for delivery is 20 October 2014 to 10 December 2014.  Films must be completed and invoiced for by 10 December 2014.

Additional Notes on BRIEFS 2-5:

The videographer/editor and/or production team must be available between 11 and 14 November to conduct interviews while the interviewees are in Falmouth.  Filming will take place in two main locations (Falmouth and Penryn).

We imagine that it will be possible for one videographer/team to deliver Briefs 2-5 (and possibly also Brief 1, subject to availability).  However, it would be useful if you could also note an optional additional cost of adding a second camera/crew for 1-2 days during the workshop.

A pre-production period will need to be scheduled/costed in which Mary Davies and Pippa Best (UK Project Co-Directors) can work with the filmmakers on a detailed discussion of content of all films.  Mary and Pippa will continue to input during the interviews in November, and will be joined by key members of Le Groupe Ouest Stereo 3D team.  Mary and Pippa will comment on a rough cut prior to delivery of a final cut of each VFX and Stereo 3D film – sufficient time should be allowed in the post production period to allow for any changes.  Members of the Le Groupe Ouest Stereo 3D team may also comment by Skype.

Travel and subsistence costs can also be included in your quote – please detail these if so.

BRIEF 1:

To edit our recent masterclass about The Machine into a full (50 minute) presentation for use online.

The presentation was recorded on 1-2 cameras, with two audio tracks, at the BFX Festival.  The edit will involve titling, intercutting the presentation with PowerPoint material as appropriate and adding a pre-recorded Google Hangout.

Timeframe:

As soon as possible, ideally approved and delivered prior to the workshop on 10 November.  (At the lastest, rough cut editing will need to be completed by 1 December 2014; final cut by 10 December 2014.)

————————————————————————————————————-BRIEF 2:

To make four 15-20 minute case study films exploring the VFX used within the four projects of the Cross Channel Film Lab, suitable for screening on the web.

Each film will introduce the project, and then consist of an edit of existing material recorded at our BFX Festival presentations in September – describing the creative process/discoveries, and sharing the final produced tests.

These may require some minor subtitling to clarify English spoken by French participants.

The films will utilise a mixture of existing Google Hangouts, BFX festival presentations (a mixture of live footage and images from PowerPoint and other presentations), and final images produced.

It may be necessary to record introductions from Pippa and Mary or others if the current material is not clear.

Timeframe:

Rough cut editing to be completed by 1 December 2014; final cut by 10 December 2014.  Earlier delivery would be prefered.

Note: The two 2013 project case studies (Slow Light and Voice of the Deep) could be completed in October/November.  The two 2014 projects (The Incredible Voyage of Dullwich-on-Sea and Dome), will probably need to be augmented with interviews conducted during the workshop in November to provide an update on their final progress; and so will be completed in November/December.

BRIEF 3:

To make a 10 minute film exploring the main VFX discoveries and conclusions within the Cross Channel Film Lab in 2014, suitable for screening on a large screen at public events.

Material for the film will need to be carefully selected from a mixture of existing Google Hangouts, BFX festival presentations, and final images produced.  Interviews will also need to be conducted with Josh Richards, Mary Davies, Yann Apperry, Pippa Best (and possibly others) between 11 and 14 November . Interview questions or an interviewer will be provided as required.

The film will need to be delivered in a format appropriate for use on a big screen as part of CCFL showcase events; and use on the web.

Timeframe:

Rough cut editing to be completed by 1 December 2014; final cut by 10 December 2014.  Earlier delivery would be preferred.

Material for the film will need to be carefully selected from a mixture of existing Stereo 3D film shooting tests (which happened in Brittany in 2013 and 2014) rushes, and final images produced.  Interviews will also need to be conducted with Joséphine Derobe, François Garnier, Antoine Le Bos, Fabienne Tsaï, Eugénie Jansen, Stefan Droessler (and possibly others) between 11 and 14 November.  Interview questions or an interviewer will be provided as required.

The film will need to delivered in a format appropriate for use on a big screen as part of CCFL showcase events; and use on the web.
