We expect the majority of applicants to both the core programme and the online programme to be based in Europe as their principal residence, primarily from countries eligible for Creative Europe’s MEDIA programme (here is a list of the countries that are eligible:  https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/sites/eacea-site/files/eligible-countries_en.pdf).

However, we can also accept applications from filmmakers who are based in other parts of the world, and our eventual selection of projects can include up to 20% of people from countries outside the Creative Europe MEDIA programme eligibility list.

Applicants for either the core or online programme should be able to demonstrate a track record in the film industry.  This is not a scheme for first-time filmmakers.  The Cross Channel Film Lab is interested in working with both emerging talents and experienced filmmakers who would like to move into working with VFX or Stereo 3D.

For the core programme, films that are entirely or partly animated are eligible as long as they meet the other project criteria, including a feasible budget of under €5million.  Projects can be at any stage from short synopsis to first draft.  You are still eligible if you have received development finance from elsewhere.

The Cross Channel Film Lab will be conducted in English, so a good understanding of English is crucial.  Applications must be submitted in English.

For both the core programme and the online programme, we can accept applications from writer-director-producer teams or as individual writers, directors, writer-directors and producers.

For the online programme, we can also accept applications from VFX or animation professionals; craft or technical crew; directors of photography; and editors.
